About Us

Roots is a professional project and construction management company operating throughout KwaZulu-Natal, and on selective operations around South Africa. With over 25 years of experience, Roots’ focus lies within the residential and commercial development sector. Drawing on the company’s established network of highly qualified and skilled project management professionals, Roots ensures excellent service delivery to their clients.

Roots Project Management was founded in 1993 by John Clarke (BSc, Civil Engineering), after he recognised the need for a professional project management service encompassing all aspects of the development cycle within the built environment. Roots draws on John’s vast experience as an engineer, and more importantly, his renowned approach to project and professional team management to deliver efficient and profitable projects. 

Key members of the Roots team include:

Alistair McNair (QS): Former Director of Grinaker LTA Projects and 30 years’ experience within the construction industry. 

Stuart Hill (BCom (Hons), Economics and Management): 8 years of project management experience.

Our Services

Roots Project Management provides services that are carried out in accordance with the guideline scope of services as defined by the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions Act 48 of 2000 (download the Act).

STAGE 1 – INCEPTION

Agreeing client requirements and preferences, assessing user needs and options, appointment of necessary consultants in establishing project brief, objectives, priorities, constraints, assumptions and strategies in consultation with the client.

STAGE 2 – CONCEPT AND VIABILITY

Finalisation of the project concept and feasibility.

STAGE 3 – DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

Manage, co-ordinate and integrate the detail design development process within the project scope, time, cost and quality parameters.

STAGE 4 – DOCUMENTATION AND PROCUREMENT

The process of establishing and implementing procurement strategies and procedures, including the preparation and necessary documentation, for effective and timeous execution of the project.

STAGE 5 – CONSTRUCTION

The management and administration of the construction contracts process, including the preparation and co-ordination of the necessary documentation to facilitate effective execution of works.

STAGE 6 – CLOSE OUT

The process of managing and administering the project close out, including preparation and co-ordination of the necessary documentation to facilitate the effective operation of the project.
